Chapter Twenty-One
Reece
I frown as I put my phone down on the table after trying calling again. Alexa isnât picking up for some reason, which is really strange. I know that sheâs finished work, the shop closed hours ago, but she isnât talking to me. This morning was amazing, there isnât any reason that sheâd be ignoring me⦠which has me worried. I canât stop myself from freaking out and fearing that something really bad has happened.
Stop it, I warn myself. Donât get carried away, you idiot. There will definitely be some reason.
âI think that the least you can do is pay for my cab!â Valenciaâs shrill voice bursts through my home. Sheâs been doing this on and off all day long, driving me insane. âI need to get out of here somehow.â
She enters the room with her face like thunder. Fury explodes across her expression as our eyes meet.
âI already said that I would pay you until the end of the monthâ¦â
âBut I do not want to stay here. I do not want to be around you.â
âOkay then sure. I will pay for the cab.â I shake my head, frustrated. âWhatever it takes.â
I just want her gone now, I want her out of my life so I can start to move on. There is so much to be done now, and I want to get started right away. Out of respect, I cannot begin to look for a new nanny while Valencia is still here. Also, I wonât be able to do it until sheâs gone, because sheâs making so much noise. I donât know anyone who needs to take such a long time, who needs to make so much noise, packing up.
âRight, and I might need the money for a hotel as well.â
âYou donât have a home to go to?â I demand, starting to lose my patience. âBecause it feels like youâre just taking the piss a bit now. I will admit that things werenât handled perfectly. But I offered you a good solution to the problem and you absolutely refused to take it. You didnât need to leave right awayâ¦â
âThen maybe I wonâtâ¦â she snaps back, taking the bait in totally the wrong way.
âBut due to your behavior today, Iâm going to have to insist that you do. This tense atmosphere is no good for Oliver and his happiness is my main priority now, as Iâm sure you are aware.â
âUrgh.â She rolls her eyes and stomps from the room. âFine, whatever.â
Thereâs more banging and crashing, plus a whole string of swear words. Thank goodness Oliver can only make noises at the moment, he isnât yet picking up words. But while sheâs out of the room, I donât need to focus on her. I can concentrate on the other issue at hand which is Alexa. I need to find out whatâs going on with her in any way possible. I donât want to invade her privacy or anything, I just want to know that sheâs okay.
An idea pops in to my mind.
